About Anaheim Detention Facility

Also known as: Anaheim City Jail, Anaheim Police Department jail

The Anaheim Detention Facility is the Anaheim Police Department’s own jail, inside the department’s main station at 425 South Harbor Boulevard. It is a city jail, separate from the Orange County Sheriff’s jails in Santa Ana, Orange and Irvine. The public entrance is on the south side of the building, on Santa Ana Street just west of Harbor Boulevard.

It is a Type I facility with room for about 120 people held before trial on felony and misdemeanor bookings. Under California rules a Type I jail holds a person for no more than 96 hours after booking, not counting holidays, so most stays are short: people are released, go to court, or move into the county jail system. The jail also houses some sentenced work-furlough participants.

Visiting hours & rules

Someone booked into the Anaheim Detention Facility can have visitors between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. daily — but not on the day they were booked. For questions about a visit, call the Detention Facility at 714-765-1988.

  • Visiting is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., every day
  • No visits on the day the person was booked
  • Work-furlough participants: weekends and holidays only, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Use the public entrance on Santa Ana Street, south side of the station
  • Bring valid photo ID
  • Stays are short — call ahead to confirm the person is still there

Before you go: Because most people leave a city jail within a few days, a visit can be cancelled by a release or a transfer. Call the Detention Facility at 714-765-1988 before you drive over.

Stays at a city jail are short, so a letter can arrive after the person has been released or moved. Call the Detention Facility at 714-765-1988 before you send anything, and send mail to the county jail once a transfer is confirmed.

Phone calls

People in custody cannot take incoming calls; they call out. Arrestees in California are entitled to at least three free local calls shortly after arrest, to a lawyer, a relative or another person. The Anaheim Police Department’s main line is 714-765-1900.
